World Eater Chosen Squad

Due to a change in my Apocalypse army I decided that Kharn the Betrayer needed a Chosen squad loaded with power axes to run with. So to the berserker and chaos warrior bits boxes and I have Kharn's chosen squad.

I will be using Matt P's World eater Warband  Apocalypse formation. It can be found in the data sheet section on the Apoc-Eclipse Wiki here . The formation lets you give different units the Mark of Khorne (+1) attacks, fearless, and furious charge. The formation also gives models upgraded a rule that axe armed models that roll a 6 to hit get an additional attack. Three of them are metal Khorne berserker aspiring champions and the other four are mostly Berserker bits. The champs were mostly converted when I acquired and didn't take much to finish them. My selection of appropriate chaosy power axe bits was a little limited so I selected some chaos warrior axes and used them. With the changes in 6th edition 40k making power axes initiative 1 they might end up on the bad side of some Grey Knight but you win some and lose some.  I am looking forward to the game and will get these ready by game day on 8September12.

My favorite of the bunch

Historicon 2012 After Action Report Part 3

Hi Kids,  Here we are with the third and final installment of pictures from H-con.    Wooohooooo!

25mm WW1 action.  It's not all trenches all the time!
But sometimes it is....    How do you rotate a picture anyway?  Oh well......
"Check Your Six" game with 1/285 or 1/300 aircraft.  Zeros by the bucket!  Where's Butch O'Hare when you need him?
Not sure if this is a steam powered minelayer or a pre-production A10.  De Vinci would be proud!  And we know this man is a genius since he is using the "plastic champaigne glass" as a flying base, just like I do!!!!!

Part of the action in "White Pearl, Black Heart" as the 25mm good guys climb up the central mountain.  To shoot at the Huns, of course.  That means Germans.
40mm Nappie Carnage and Glory, revved up by the NC Raleigh lads!
Still in the backwoods, this time with 25mm Amenican Rev!  Still using Carnage & Glory, too.  Or maybe that's supposed to be the caption for the next picture.  Maybe I'm drunk.....

If there's one thing I'm sure of, this is the setup for 1/285 Battletech!  Just try a "Death from above" off that peak!  I double dog dare ya!
For those guys who dig the really big figs, it's 1/48 WW2!

The hand of doom, just like the Valkyries of legend, choose the fallen as a Meteor makes a ground attack run in a 10mm Arab-Israeli game.
Action in the Sudan with 25mm colonial figs in the desert.  Buckets o cav!
25mm gunboats steam to attack a native boat in the White Nile (mostly mud at this point) in the colonial game.  D20's, playing cards, could this be The Sword and The Flame?

Storming the fortress in the Sudan!
Of course there's always some 40K action going on somewhere!  This game is taking place on the massive urban board from the prior photos.
Skyships of Mars duke it out above the red planet.  Mostly heavily converted ship and sub models, and man they look cool!
The Gamelons are just over the horizon on the red planet!

A close up of one of my favs!
Looking for mayhem in the corporate world?  Why not a nice relaxing game of Corporate Zombie?  Here's the setup, with poison gas flowing through the cube farm....
And here we have the participants.  All you corporate warriors should recognise these folks.  You'll note the zombies outnumber the healthy by a large margin, just like real life.

40mm Zulus!  The veld of Zululand awash with blood!  The hrons of the bull close in on the plucky Brits.  God Save The Queen!
Gotta love the WW2 naval games!
25mm Stalingrad, the Germans cranking up!

The Zulus close in...  The line stands firm...  Maybe if they belt out a few lines of "Men of Herlech" it'll help...
The natives are restless, and possibly revolting, in this 25mm clash on the American frontier.  Yep, everything bursts into flames as soon as the natives get near.
15mm WW2 Armor by the pound!  And look at all the room they have to manuever!

Another hardcore gamer living the dream with 32mm Spartans in the Big Honkin' Game of "Wargods of Eygptus!!"  Dressed to match his forces, he crushed his enemies, saw them flee before him, and heard the lamentation of their women!" all to the accompaniment of bellows of "THIS IS SPARTA!!!!"
The big set up for the Wargods game, a staple of Saturday night.
The Spartans advanced so fast it was impossible to keep them in focus...
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Hmmmm.  My notes say "40mm Indian War" and it could be true, but it looks like Brits vs. Continental USA.  There might be some indians lurking somewhere, or maybe it took place in Indiana (!); but you never know what those gaming lads will come up with.  I'm betting it's another Carnage & Glory game of the AWI.  Or maybe Clive near Calcutta.....

Well kids, that's all the photos I took of Historicon this year.  Hope you dug 'em!  And I strongly urge everyone (once again) to get to one of the big east coast cons!  They are all buckets of fun, you can spend your hard-earned loot in the dealer hall or the flea market (I usually choose both!) and hang out with a bunch of like-minded individuals who are much cooler than the average wanker on the street!  So quit argueing about true line of sight in 40K and come pick up all the latest toys at the Big Show!  Be inspired by other maniacs to get the lead out of the basement and into combat!!!!!

Historicon 2012 After Action Report Part 2

Hi Kids,  Here we are with the second installment of pictures from the World's Largest Wargame Convention! (At least if you measure by participation games.) WoooHooooo!  The first few shots are of a 25mm Pancho Villa Pulp Game, this is what Mexico might have looked like in the 1920's.  All sorts of factions were duking it out in downtown Santa Grunge, including the Texas Rangers!  No, not the baseball team!

My brave Federales (We don't need no stinkin' badges) advance along main street.  Or as they say south of the border "Street-o la main-o."
My troops with a Mk IV tank-o in support advancing towards our objective (the jail, naturally) while some mounted bad guys try to block our route.
Peleliu (hope I spelt that correctly) in something like 15mm.  Nice looking terrain!

My lads are charged by the banditos!  While I lost the H-t-H struggle-o I only suffered one dead, then the survivors gave the banditos some .45 hate mail!
Take that ya chicken stealing gutter trash!
Another shot of the south pacific island of Peleiu.  Hit the beach!

Here's that Big Battle of Borodino in 25mm underway.  Just goes to show what a couple dozen dedicated gamers can do!
Some post-apocalypse (no, not the 40K variety) in a rough neighborhood, in 25mm.  Where's Mad Max when you need him? Just like hookers, there's never one around when you need em.  "The Bronze, they steal your pride."  And everything else not welded to the floor.

Here we have a 25mm Darkest Africa game, looks like the colonial powers are advancing without mercy!  I wonder if the world famous BoBo Young is in there somewhere? Yeah, he's a real dude, just ask Chris Peers.  He's got the mojo going!
A 25mm (and 1/48 when required) Stalingrad-ish set up!  This board was used for all sorts of stuff during the con.
Ah yes, the French Foreign Legion's most sacred battle; Camarone, Mexico!  When 60 Legionaires managed to hold off something like 2000 Mexicans for most of a day.  This was the battle where the last 5 unwounded Legionaires, out of ammo and water, charged with the bayonet! "We will charge with the bayonet. You will follow me."  Capt. Danjune's wooden hand is still held as a sacred relic. "Mon ami, it is the same.  No surrender."

A 25mm (the one true scale) game of Force On Force.  Looks like somewhere in the Mid-east.  Gee, they never have trouble there.  Might as well be playing fantasy!  Watch out for the finger of doom!  That always means bad events!  And doesn't that little green plant on the hill look like a grenade exploding?  Cool, huh?
A 25mm game from the Mummy movies!  That looks like an awesome ship & port.  We need to be doing more pulp around here.
15mm (not the one true scale) game of Vietnam.  Looks like a pretty bad ambush, lots of burning vehicles.

Here's a game of Volley and Carronade!  Looks like buckets of 15mm stuff!
Just in case you thought the ground pounders were getting all the attention, here's a WW2 air game.  Looks like Ju88's and Me110's!
Frank Chadwick is at it again!  This is his Mars Needs Steam game, with spectacular terrain.  Does all this Mars stuff remind anyone else of the song "Mars Needs Guitars" by the Hoodoo Guru's?

"I'm a stone age Romeo,
got a space age Juliette,
we make primitive love,
cause we ain't got a TV set!"

Sounds better with music, of course!

The Sky Ships of Mars, on Frank Chadwick's terrain.  Man do they look cool!  I gotta dig out my martian figs and start painting!  Once again, proving that 25mm in the only scale that matters.
Awesome terrain!  I wonder how tough it is to transport around?

"We'll take guitars to Mars,
and hit the discotechs!"

Holy Shnikies Batman!  When these guys go urban, they go the distance!  What's that world famous line?  "Never get off the boat.  Not unless you're going all the way!"   These guys must have set a record.  I mean DAMN.
Here's the terrain for a pulp game, "White Pearl Black Heart". Me and Steve were in this one but refused to shoot at each other, being pals. Not sure the gamemasters dug it, though.
25mm Ruritania, same setup as Cold Wars!  Steam is taking over wargaming, and I can dig it!

Here's that mapboard from Wargames Illustrated, Sevatovpol-ish from the Crimean-ish War!  The Brits line up for the advance!  25mm.
Here's the view going up the hill at the Russian entrenchments.
Now here's a hardcore gamer!  It's the 20+ year old $2.99 Microgame "Olympica" from Metagaming set to miniatures!  Ya gotta love it!  My high school yearbook quote was, "The Webbies want your mind" so you can put me firmly in the "true believer" camp!
Action in the main crater on Mars!  No steam this time, just the UN causing trouble.  Some things never change.  I just wish they'd pay their parking tickets!  Can't we send those bums to Switzerland or someplace?  Does anywhere want them?  Just say the word....

Well kids, that's it for this installment.  I still have about 20 pix to go, so expect one more chapter!
