Tilean Warband Refitted

I built a couple more models for my Tilean Warband in the GameOnGw Mordheim League. First is my new and improved Captain. He was originally armed with a rapier but after three game of not hitting a lick on anything. The first game had him put out of action by a zombie, second game he was almost knocked out by an ungor and third game it was a combination of a zombie and a ghoul that had him down but not out of action. He did get an advance which gave him a four toughness but needed a change of equipment. The warband had acquired a set of light armor from a treasure hunt scenario so I picked up a helmet, shield and sword to go with it. The rapier was put in storage for when the Captain can go back to style instead of utility. Below is the new captain. I still have to set the arms in their final position, add a bit more green stuff to the underarm gaps and once painted glue on the shield.
Here is the new young blood with his shiny hook hand to replace to one he lost in the last game. His two handed hammer has gone into storage and he has been reequipped with a sword from the warband stores.
The last picture is of the dark man all painted up. He is a nemesis for Prospector Bob in the ongoing Pulp campaign. I am still working on a back story and a proper name. I am contemplating calling him "Skull". The idea comes from a sergeant I knew during my military service. Everybody called the sergeant "Skull". He was a big guy and a hard core weightlifter who had won several of the bodybuilding competition on base. He also had to get all his uniforms tailored because his arm wouldn't fit through the sleeves of the issue uniforms. My curiosity got the better of me eventually and I asked "Why does everybody call him Skull?", the answer was "Because he wants to be called Skull."
I could see him as a "Skull" but I need to think on it more.

Manticore tank

Here are a couple painting Wip picture I have been painting for a friend of mine. The conversion is made from hell strike missiles from the Valkyrie, 2 dozer blades, 2 of the basilisk rear hull panels and four of the support arms from the old dozer blade attachment.

I have finished the model since I took the pictures and didn't take a finished picture. After these pictures I painted the missle white to make them contrast against the rest of the model.

Hi Kids, Here are a few pix of some of the games at the Southern Front wargame con in Raleigh, NC. It's a honkin' great con run every year in early October, they had about 10 games going during each time slot, nothing but fun all weekend long! In these pix we've got 20mm Vietnam, Spacehulk, 1/600 Civil War Ironclads, 25mm Civil War and 40mm American Rev. If you're ever in the neighborhood (or within a couple hundred miles I highly recommend this con and it's conterpart, Spring Fever. Visit the Triangle Simulation Society webpages for more details. And a lot more pictures. Sorry, but the ones of the Hooters waitresses didn't come out. No, really.

Mordheim At the Cage

Well the League has started and I went to the Cage today for a few games of Mordheim. The first game for my Tilean warband was a skirmish against Tony's Undead. It ended as a loss for me after failing a rout test. I wouldn't call them Highlights but my Captain being taken out of action by a zombie before swinging one blow, another champion being knocked out of action and a warrior being killed. The champ ended up missing the next game. The next was against Shaun and a loaner beastman warband. I fared a little better and won this game. A highlight was the crossbow shot that knocked out the beastman leader and then the rest of of the band routing off of the board. The last game was a rematch against Tony's Undead. Another loss for me after a voluntary rout to save several of my knocked down or stunned heros before they took out of action. I managed to get some extra wyrdstone but one of my youngbloods had his arm amputated.
I had a lot of fun and can't wait for the next mordheim day. So off to the work table to build a new youngblood model with a hook for a hand.

On the Work Table

I am planning on playing in the Mordheim league being organized by Tony through the GameonGw club. Saturday is the first day of the league and I am trying to make it to the Cage to get in some games. I searched through the war bands and finally decided to use the Tilean war band in the Lustria Campaign from the Town Cryer 22.
Here are some prototype Heroes. Two champs with mace and dagger, A young blood with a two handed hammer, a the young blood astrologer with a mace and dagger and the captain with a rapier and a dagger. They are from Remassen so all the heroes will get a leadership boost. The astrologer doesn't have any special rules, he is just a youngblood but I like the figure and he does have a mace hanging from his belt.
Here are the henchmen. Two duelists with sword and dagger, two warriors with mace and dagger, and three marksmen with crossbows. This will give me 12 models in my starting war band. I went equipment lite to pad the roster and hope the three marksmen can give enough cover fire.
Here are some hirelings I am planning to paint up and maybe use during the league. A pit fighter, the wizard Nicodemus, Arabian Merchant, Priest of Morr, Halfling scout, and Vampire Assassin. The Priest of Morr isn't actually a hireling he is a replacement hero but to add him I will need to drop a champion and probably a henchman to cover his cost. The flip side is he is a spell caster of a sort. I have a few days till I have to make my final decisions.
Here are a couple blasts from the past, two Rogue Trader Keeper of Secrets that I have had since the beginning of my hobby experience. They were badly assembled, poorly painted and needed rebasing onto larger bases, so into the Simple Green. Paint striped, reassembled with a good bit of green stuff and rebased onto 50mm bases in all their greater daemon glory. Some would say they are a little small compared to the newer greater daemons but I think as them as the little Keeper of Secrets that what it more.
Here are another two blasts from the past an Eldar skimmer hawk in the foreground and an eldar skimmer scorpion on the stand, both from Epicast. I just recently traded with a buddy of mine to get them and aim to use them in the next big apocalypse game put on by Matt P. The Scorpion I plan to play as a fire prism tank and the Hawk as a fast skimmer with no weapons, 10 armor all around and access to the eldar vehicle upgrades.
Last is the dark man a new Nemesis for Prospector Bob and his Cohorts in our long running Pulp Campaign. He will get a little better name once I get some paint on him. Bad picture but he is a horror cliks model I rebased on a washer for the pulp games.

Pass of the Hidden Valley of the Golden Tablets

Following the events detailed in Dawn Patrol in the Hindu Kush. Ace Pilot Sly Mcfly has joined Sgt Booker with a couple of Citroen half tracks, a small army of Turkish mercenaries, all backed by an Askari crewed Mountain Gun to head into the Towering peaks of Kyrgyzstan and lead them to the valley concealing a secret military camp and Zeppelin base . Mcfly and his wing man Jimmy Dell Hoyt had confirmed to presence of LZ93, the dreaded airship Invective, moored at the air base in the valley. Their wire to Prospector Bob had resulted in Sgt Booker arriving with a small army and orders to find the pass. After weeks spent traveling deep into the frozen mountains Mcfly finally recognized the landmarks and lead the force into a treacherous defile that opened up into a narrow valley filled with thick vegetation and many amazing creatures. McFly was sure this was it but Booker was spooked, something wasn't right here. Booker Ordered the Turks to spread out and had the Askaris manhandle the mountain gun up a low rise to give a better view of the valley. Unknown to them Warlord Ping Pong had set a guard on this pass and the defenders were waiting for McFly and Booker to fall into their trap.
the Chinese command Post
Chinese MG 08 overlooking the pass waiting for the Turks to show themselves
Booker and McFly conferring about the mysterious valley while the Askaris finish setting up the mountain gun.
Turks lined up at phase line Hookah
The Turkish line advances,
Warlord troops advance up the pass to cut off the Turks.
McFly mounts the half track and follows the Turks up the valley
Booker mounts up and follows the Turks up the other side of the valley.
First blood to the Chinese. The Warlord machine gun crew spot the advancing Turks and bowl several over with a deadly accurate burst.
The Machine gunners continue to suppress the bottom of the hill but the Mountain gun is out of range.
The Chinese lieutenant orders his troops forward and takes one last swig of grain alcohol then falls over dead.
A rustle in the grass and "AAAAHHHhhh, SNAKE!!" a giant snake crawls up to the Askaris and they flee from it and the gun.
Turks and Warlord troops close into range.
The Turks advance into the mouth of the pass only lightly defended by the Warlords troops.
Warlord Squad lead by A sergeant armed with an Mp18 opens up on the Turks.
The Askaris recrew the mountain gun and get the range of the Machine gunners.
The machine gunners decide to move the gun down into the pass to get a better angle at the advancing Turks not because the Askari cannon had ranged them in.
McFly Moves up to Inspire the Turks.
Deadly firefight in the jungle continues.
More Turks advance on the Warlord Flank.
GRASS FIRE!! those damn Turks and their cheap cigarettes.
Did you hear some thing? OH NO, IT IS THE BLOOD MONKEY!!!
The Blood Monkey makes his choice and carries away a Turk for a afternoon snack.

What is that noise? OH NO GIANT RHINO!! The Askari gun captain falls dead from fright and the rest of the crew flees.

The Giant Rhino claims the hill before wandering off.

Sly McFly Dismounts and joins the fighting.

The Warlord troops drunk and raging, fix bayonets and charge McFly and the Turkish survivors. McFly stands his ground and calmly shoots down a string of four bandits while the Turks dispatch the remaining stragglers.

More Warlord Troops advance to finish off McFly and the Turk survivors.

What is that noise over there? GIANT SNAKE!! again The Last two Turks from their squad flee.

The Giant snake crawls on looking for a slower meal.

A curious porter lights a "Dynamite" brand candle killing himself and destroying the half track.

Booker joins the fight in the slaughter hole and finally kills the giant snake.

McFly Is Down !! McFly takes a bullet and goes down hard.

Booker looked over the situation. The Chinese were regrouping, Mcfly was down and he only had a handful of battered and bloody Turks left standing. He hated it but it was time to withdraw. the Turks loaded Mcfly and as many wounded Turks as they could find and started the trek back down the mountain. Booker looked back and thought "This pass might be well guarded but there has to be another one somewhere and he vowed to find it or die trying."
This game was played at the Basement of Heaped Miniatures using the Sword in Africa rule set. Chuckaroobob played the Turks and I played the Chinese. It was my first game of The Sword in Africa and it was a hoot. I am looking forward to the next game. The special happenings really added to the game, some good some bad. The most memorable are my commander falling dead, the Turks unable to shoot because they were Muslims and a rumor has spread about swine grease on their bullets, The great white amazon leading off bunches of Turks and my machine gun crew in to slavery, the Turks setting a grass fire, sinkholes opening up and swallowing my troops, a porter blowing up the half track, the rhino, the damn giant snake and THE BLOOD MONKEY!!!!
I can't wait for the next game.
